Best Essential Oils for Digestive Health

We live in a world of processed foods, it’s no wonder why there are so many people with digestive issues.  The Standard American Diet (SAD) is terrible for our digestive system. People are eating crap, and taking medication to help with their ingestion, bloating, gas, etc.  Of course, it’s a good idea to change your diet by decreasing/eliminating processed food and increasing whole foods.  But you should also consider essential oils.  Essential oils have been used for thousands of years for every ailment you can imagine.  Try the following essential oils if you’re having digestive issues.

5 Best Essential Oils for Digestive Health

Ginger:  You may know ginger as that spicy root that is added to many Asian dishes.  Ginger has many health benefits, one being it supports a healthy digestive system.* Ginger can help reduce gas, bloating, and indigestion and is also great for reducing nausea.* Yes, that’s probably why your mom gave you Ginger ale when you were sick. No one drinks Ginger ale unless they’re sick, right?  Put a drop in your palm and inhale, add a few drops to your diffuser, or massage into your lower abdomen.

Oregano: Oregano is one of the most potent and powerful essential oils and has been used for centuries in traditional health practices for its cleansing and immune-boosting properties.*  Oregano also supports a healthy digestive system by promoting the secretion of digestive juices.* Add a drop of oregano to your water or put into a veggie capsule to ingest.* Please be careful when ingesting oils, as many are not safe to ingest because they contain additives, chemicals, and/or adulterants.  DoTerra’s oils are Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade (CPTG) and their oregano is safe to ingest.

Peppermint: Peppermint is one of the best selling oils because it has so many health benefits.   Peppermint helps alleviate an occasional stomach upset and it smells awesome!  Add a couple of drops to your drink, put 3-4 drops in your diffuser, or add a drop or two to a veggie capsule.

Clove:  The bud of a clove tree contains a powerful amount of the active chemical component eugenol, which contributes to the invigorating fragrance of Clove essential oil. Studies have shown that eugenol has the potential to assist the body in maintaining normal gastrointestinal motility, which is helpful during times of stress when the digestive tract is not functioning properly.*

DigestZen: We also want to mention our favorite DoTerra blend DigestZen.  Our kids call it “magic oil” because of how quickly it resolves a tummy ache.  Rub it on an upset belly, diffuse it, or add a couple drops to a glass of water. DigestZen is known as doTERRA’s “tummy tamer” blend due to its ability to aid in digestion, soothe occasional stomach upset, and maintain overall digestive health.* This unique blend contains Ginger, Fennel, and Coriander to help ease occasional stomach discomfort, including motion sickness and indigestion, while Peppermint, Tarragon, Anise, and Caraway aid with digestion and help maintain a healthy gastrointestinal tract.* DigestZen is great to have on hand when stomach upset occurs and is safe and effective. DigestZen is a healthy, natural, and gentle way to soothe an upset stomach or maintain a healthy digestive system.*
